Do you easily get tired of the music you have on your phone or player? If you like Bluetooth speakers and you use them often outdoors, we have the right solution for you – Bluetooth speakers with FM radio.
For most of us, having at least 2.1 speaker system or even one speaker at home or office is a must. If you hate cables or you live in a small apartment or your office is cluttered with all kinds of wires, a Bluetooth speaker will really come in handy. If the speaker supports radio, there is some extra fun.
The possibility to listen to radio wherever you go is really helpful in some situations and we will explain all the advantages of Bluetooth speakers with radio later. Besides that, this article will emphasize the most important things about Bluetooth speakers and show you their good as well as bad sides. We will also guide you through the process of purchasing Bluetooth speakers and show you the most important characteristics your Bluetooth speaker should have.
Why Do We Need Bluetooth Speakers with FM Radio?
Music is the important part of our lives. We used to listen to music only at home or in cafes. If you wanted to listen to music outside, someone had to bring the guitar and play it. Today we can bring the music with us anywhere we go. We listen to music when driving, commuting, in the office, on a picnic, etc.
Our phones, no matter how good they are, will never sound as good as the average speaker. No matter if you have some expensive JBL or some cheap non-branded speaker, it will sound way better than your phone. Thanks to the Bluetooth technology, speakers have become portable, even bigger ones. You can even throw a small party outdoors without worrying about the cables, batteries, etc. In case you run out of songs you love and there is nothing you would like to listen on your phone or SD card, radio takes over.
You can always find something interesting on the radio. It can remind you of some old songs that you and your friends love but you have forgotten about them.
This is why it’s good to have a Bluetooth speaker with a built-in radio. It’s never boring (you can listen to the news and other entertaining programs) and you can never run out of music if you turn on the radio.
Best Bluetooth Speakers With FM Radio – Comparison Table
The Difference Between Online and FM Radio
We used to have only regular radios. They used to come as separate devices and later they were used for listening to tapes or CDs. Today we have radios practically on every device we own. We can listen to the radio on our smartphone, on a player, on a TV and now, even on speakers.
The radios on Bluetooth speakers can be divided into the same two groups as radios on every other device that has one. There are analog (FM/AM) radios and internet (online) radios. You’ve probably been wondering what the difference between these two types is and which type is better. We can say that each type has its advantages and disadvantages. We will present them to you and you can conclude which type is preferable for you and your lifestyle.
Analog or FM radios are “old-fashioned” radios. As we have said, they were first sold separately until the manufacturers of smartphones and CD players started to build them into their products. They are so common and available that people have stopped buying regular radios. Why would you, after all, spend money on something that you can get for free when buying your smartphone or speaker?
While some people still love them, analog radios even on phones are partially forgotten technology. It is true that analog radio offers better sound quality because the data is broadcasted over much smaller area than the area that internet radios cover and also because the information comes faster to the listener. When you’re using internet radio, it uses the speed of your internet and the information needs more time to reach the listener. That’s why you can turn on analog radio first and listen to something and then turn on internet radio and hear the same information a few seconds later (or even a minute later). Also, when you’re using analog radio, you can only listen to the stations which have strong signal in your country, city or even part of the city. If you go out of the broadcast range, your device will start making that annoying and terrifying sound that is some kind of hissing, rustling, and buzzing which means the signal is lost and you have to switch to another radio station.
If you want to use internet radio, there has to be some kind of preinstalled internet radio app on your device. You can also download and install some radio app on your own. Some radio stations release their online versions by themselves. Some of them are free while others have membership fees and you have to pay if you want to listen to them. Internet radio stations can’t be played if you don’t have internet access. Otherwise, they are very useful because you can listen to your favorite radio station no matter where you are. The important thing is that youhave connect to some kind of internet or Wi-Fi that is fast enough for streaming.

In spite of being small and light, this speaker offers a lot. It is very durable as it is made from aluminum and we assume it can survive some severe usage. The buttons are very responsive and easy to use while the bottom of the speaker is covered with rubber that prevents sliding along the surface the speaker stands on.

Things we don’t like
SoundCore Mini is the portable speaker that can’t always be used outside because it is not waterproof.
The radio receives better signal if you connect a USB cable to the speaker as it plays the role of an antenna. Without it, the sound gets muffled.
When playing music from SD cards, you can’t choose in which order the songs will be played.

Things we don’t like
If you consider the price, Elemusi is a good speaker. However, we can’t deny that this is cheaply made speaker that shouldn’t be exposed to severe use. It is not waterproof and it shouldn’t be used outdoors if it’s raining.

The Tailgater is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and it is perfect for big parties such as karaoke parties, mostly because of that big microphone that comes with the speaker. It features one of the best Bluetooth versions and the signal range is great although it can’t reach the advertised 100ft most of the time. However, it can maintain quality signal at 65ft distance and we think that is more than enough in most situations.
The battery of this speaker can beat most of the batteries on the market. If you use it at 50% volume, you can get up to 50 hours of playback time, while it lasts up to 20 hours at 70% volume, which is quite amazing. You also have the USB port that can be used to charge your phone or player.
ION Tailgater has a built-in FM radio. It also has the real metal antenna which enables better signal and better sound quality. It is also great that you have highly responsive buttons that you can use to easily switch between stations.
As far as the sound quality is concerned, we can say that this speaker sounds more than decent for the price. It can get very loud and it has a nice and punchy bass while the mids and highs are quite distinctive and clean.
Things we don’t like
We must admit that the speaker doesn’t look attractive. If you prefer your devices to look stylish, you should probably keep reading.
The sound quality could be improved and some details could be added to the mids and the highs. Also, the sound gets distorted at high volumes (above 70%).

The sound quality is surprisingly good and clear for a cheap speaker. The bass is also very good and the speaker is quite loud.
Things we don’t like
EassyAcc Mini isn’t waterproof at all.
It has a glossy finish that attracts fingerprints.
The sound gets quite distorted at high volumes.
Because of the strong bass, it can happen that the speaker moves on your desk.

FM is a default mode and it will be on when you turn on the speaker. Thanks to the nice display, you can easily adjust the settings using the buttons below the display. You even have the equalizer that enables you to adjust the sound to your preferences. The buttons on the top of the speaker can be used to switch between memorized FM stations or to skip to the certain song on your SD card. The sound is quite clean and clear and many customers say it is quite loud considering the fact that the speaker has only one 3W driver.
Things we don’t like
Radio works better than Bluetooth and SD card, at least the sound quality is better. The sound is not warm and deep enough and we think there are some better speakers for the price if the radio feature is not the most important feature to you.
The speaker is not waterproof.

Things we don’t like

The build quality is not satisfying as this is plastic speaker and it is obvious that it is cheaply made. At this price point, you can’t even hope this has any level of water resistance.

If you are listening to music at 80% volume, you will get 12 hours of playtime which is more than enough for most activities.
Things we don’t like
Some customers say the buttons are tricky to use because they have more than one function, especially the play/pause button that is also used for answering calls and changing modes. This button also enables you to search for radio stations.
The female voice that informs you about the selected mode, successful pairing, etc. is quite loud and it can be very annoying. When your battery is low, the voice will constantly repeat that you have to charge the battery.

The speaker has problems with static noise if the volume is too low or too high. When you turn it up above 80%, you will notice some distortion.

Control buttons are one of the things customers complained about in the past – all the buttons are actually multifunction buttons and it sometimes gets quite difficult to manage them and perform the action you want to perform.

The speaker is not waterproof and it doesn’t really have any type of water or dust resistance.
The negative is that many of the control buttons are actually multifunctional and it can be a bit confusing to remember how to use them.
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Bluetooth Speakers
Bluetooth speakers are becoming very trendy nowadays. They are generally great, but you should also be aware of the problems you may encounter when using these devices. That’s why we are going to emphasize the most important advantages and disadvantages of Bluetooth speakers. This part of our article can be very useful in case you have never owned this kind of speaker.
The Advantages of Using Bluetooth Speakers
Bluetooth speakers allow you to move
Bluetooth speakers don’t have wires and wires are the only thing that keeps even the smallest wired speaker attached to one place in your room or office. You can take them outside your house and use them in your courtyard in case you have some really long extension cord or several extension cords. Even then, it may be difficult to use them outdoors.
With Bluetooth speakers, this kind of problem will be in the past. Bluetooth speakers are usually smaller in size and they don’t have wires which makes them highly portable. You can take them anywhere you go: on a trip, on a picnic, etc. They can be used in different locations and in different situations, they allow you to keep moving and have more fun.
Bluetooth speakers have numerous features
These speakers are being improved constantly. You can always buy a regular Bluetooth speaker without any additional features but you don’t have to. There are so many different Bluetooth speakers on the market.
Some of them have USB ports and SD card slots, they have displays, remotes, and apparently, radios. Some of them have all of these features accompanied by the long-lasting rechargeable battery. In case you get some of these, you are definitely not going to be bored no matter where you go and what you do. In case you don’t have enough music on your phone or notebook, you can always use USB or SD card, or simply turn on the radio and surprise the people around you.
Bluetooth speakers are widely compatible
Bluetooth technology is constantly being improved. The scientists are constantly releasing new versions that allow faster data transfer with less compression and better audio output (better sound quality).

Most of the popular Bluetooth devices still feature 4.0 or 4.1 Bluetooth versions, but those are still great and offer quality sound. The data transfer speed is satisfying, the signal range is decent and it doesn’t require you to stay close all the time.
Bluetooth technology was made to be used everywhere and that’s why most of modern devices feature some Bluetooth version. No matter which Bluetooth speakers with the radio you choose, they will be able to pair with your Bluetooth enabled device. These speakers are really easy to use and anyone can master the controls.
The Disadvantages of Using Bluetooth Speakers
Wired speakers will always sound better
Unfortunately, this is the fact. The Bluetooth technology is still not developed enough and we have to deal with the fact that wired devices sound way better than Bluetooth ones. It is true that the latest versions of Bluetooth devices are coming very close to their wired rivals, but we can’t deny that any version of Bluetooth requires data compression. Even the smallest amount of compression can make significant difference.
Time of use is limited
Rechargeable battery is a great idea and there are some batteries that last unbelievably long, but the truth is that their life is still limited.
Wired speakers can be used all the time without charging. With a Bluetooth speaker, the situation is different and you always have to think about the battery.
Your movement is limited
Sure, it is amazing that your speakers aren’t physically attached to wall socket but you can’t pair your speaker with your phone and simply walk away with the phone in your pocket. If you are too far away from the speaker, the music will stop playing, which makes your movement limited – you have to be within the Bluetooth range in order to maintain continuous playback. Sometimes the advertised range is significantly shorter in reality.
What Should You Consider When Buying Bluetooth Speaker with FM Radio?
As we have promised at the beginning, we are going to give you a few pieces of advice on how to buy Bluetooth speakers with radio. Here are some things you should think of when buying Bluetooth speakers with radio in 2024.
Price
Laugh it or not, price is one of the most important characteristics of any device because we won’t buy something we can’t afford no matter how good it is. This is why you should always define your budget before you start searching for new devices. That makes the search easier and shorter.
Purpose
Nobody can say that defining the purpose of your potential new device is not important. You shouldn’t just buy things because they are fancy or because you like them. Every single thing you buy should have a specific purpose in your home and your life. If you don’t know where and how you will be using Bluetooth speaker with radio, you shouldn’t really buy it.
Bluetooth version
Although we have said that all Bluetooth devices are widely compatible, you should pay attention to the Bluetooth version because newer versions come with better sound quality, longer Bluetooth range, and better connection.
Sound quality
This is one of the things that should never be forgotten. Of course, sound quality is not equally important for all of us. Also, not every person can hear the difference in sound unless it’s really huge difference. However, you should always consider the parameters listed in the specs because they show you what you can expect from that speaker (loudness, frequency response, etc.).
Additional features
We have mentioned that modern speakers come with a bunch of features and that you can use them in different situations. They are not only wireless, but they also have USB ports, SD card slots, alarms, remotes, etc. The most important – they have built-in radios. Some of them have analog (FM/AM) while the others have internet radios. We have already said something about their advantages and disadvantages, so we won’t repeat ourselves, because it is up to you to decide which type you prefer and find more useful.
We hope our article about 17 best Bluetooth speakers with FM radio in 2024 was helpful and that we answered at least some of your questions. If you are interested in this kind of speakers, check our list once again, pick one of 17 excellent models and enjoy it.
FAQs
Q: Do all Bluetooth speakers have radio?
A: No. Not all Bluetooth speakers have built-in radio tuners. As it turns out, most of the expensive, premium Bluetooth speakers don’t have FM tuners. This feature is more often available in cheaper mini Bluetooth speakers and some large PA speakers and party speakers.
Q: How can I listen to FM radio through Bluetooth speakers?
A: The first option is obvious – buy a Bluetooth speaker with a built-in FM tuner. When you have this kind of speaker, you just have to select the right mode and scan for available stations.
If, on the other hand, you have a speaker without an FM tuner, you could try using the built-in FM tuner on your phone. Most of today’s smartphones have FM tuners but, in order to get reception, you must have your headphones or an AUX cable connected to your phone. AUX cable and the wires inside the headphone cable serve as radio antennas and that’s why you must have them connected to your phone. So, if you are using an AUX cable, you can connect the other end to the speaker and listen to your favorite station through your speaker. You can’t stream FM radio from your phone wirelessly to your Bluetooth speaker.
Q: Does my phone has an FM tuner?
A: Most of today’s phones have it, but not all of them. For example, iPhone 11 does not have FM radio. In some cases, the FM feature is hidden in some folder, but you can easily find the instructions on how to use the FM tuner.
Q: Do I need a Bluetooth speaker that supports both AM and FM?
A: If you are not a fan of radio, you don’t really need any kind of built-in tuner. If you, on the other hand, like the idea of listening to music the old way, you need a speaker with FM tuner.
The number of speakers with AM tuners is very limited but if you are into radio talk shows, traffic reports, or religious content, you should probably look for a Bluetooth speaker with both – AM and FM tuner.
Q: What is the best Bluetooth speaker with FM radio?
A: Well, none of those cheap tiny speakers offers excellent reception and can’t compete with real radios with analog FM tuners but they all offer satisfying performance. Our favorite Bluetooth speakers with FM radio are ION Audio Tailgater and Avantree SP850.
